Daily Candy

I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend.  I know I did.  I stuffed my face with pie.  I love pie, and trust me I ate my fair share. Now, to just shed that extra pie weight to get ready for Christmas!

Makeout Monday ~ Things I like this week Cat Edition

I really like little sweet kittens.  I don't have any cats, but my little dog, Alabama, sure acts like a cat.  In fact I call him yarn all the time.  Mostly because his fur looks like yarn, and well, he acts like a cat.  A yarn covered cat. :)

Holiday Countdown ~ Small Business Saturday

This year, my challenge was to try to shop at all local, or at least handmade stores.  I would say most, if not all, my gifts are local or handmade.  I am so excited to be able to share the wealth and support handmade companies!

If you are still looking to purchase some wonderful things, Small Business Saturday, is a great way to keep your money local, while getting that special something for that special someone.

Today, my dad, Mr. Elliott, and myself are hitting up Penzey's Spices, Pryde's Baking Supply, and some random thrift stores for, hopefully, some major scores.

Where are some of your favorite local places to shop?

Don't forget to check out Etsy, or Renegade Handmade.

Kem's Kandy for the Weekend

This weekend, I am not going Black Friday Shopping.  I am instead going to relish in the long weekend with friends and family.  I might go shopping, but it will only be at thrift stores. Do you think thrift stores have black fridays sales?  I will be sure to find out.

I do have two old doors that Mr. Elliott brought home for me.  I am looking all around for inspiration for them.  They are old, more than a little rustic, and when I look at them all I want to know is where they were used and who's hand could have touched them.  I have posted below a couple of cute ideas, but I am not sure if my doors would work this way. We shall see.

For the rest of my friday, I am hosting an After Thanksgiving Soup Bar.  I am making Potato Soup (with different toppings the choose from) and a Vegetable Soup with an assortment of yummy sides.

What does your after thanksgiving tradition consist of?

Nearly Famous ~ Pinup Wednesday!

// Stella Gisele // Twitter // Pinup Lifestyle //

Age: 27

Occupation: Crisis worker in the Emergency Room

From: CT / NY

Favorite Photographer to work with: Aaron Lewis or Bruce Lemler.

(The last few photos are) from a shoot with Aaron Lewis which was done in August 2011. Hair and makeup done by me. These photos are extra from a shoot I did for a pinup calendar coming out next month. I love the one of me getting out of the car... the car is such a classic!!!

The first few photos are from a shoot with Bruce Lemer (the more risque photos). Hair and makeup by Mila Thomas. These pictures are beautiful to me, especially because I was nervous to do this shoot because I'm not a skinny minnie.... and the fact its all natural: beautiful without any photoshopping.

How long have I been modeling: I changed my life in March 2011 by taking better care of myself. I was fortunate to meet some amazing people at the time all by chance who have been pushing me to pursue my goals. I love positivity and surrounding myself with it. I hope I can maybe make it one day and help others the way I've been helped. This industry is crazy I'm learning lol... its nice to come across genuine people now and then.

Favorite pinup(s): Definitely Bettie Page..Doris Mayday...Sabina Kelley.. and some Marilyn Monroe

Favorite clothing line(s): Bettie Page of course!

If you could shoot with any photographer: Hmm..  Roy Varga or Frank Antonio

Simple Sunday Wisdom

Since cooler weather is fast approaching many states and with the holidays looming, everyone is looking for ways to cut cost, pinch their pennies, and just how to be "green", without spending all their green.  Here are a few tips that may help your house be a little greener, and also prepare your home for winter guests and holiday parties!

1. Heating and cooling a home is where a lot of money is spent.  If you are lucky enough to live somewhere, where heating is already part of your monthly payment, then you are set!  But, most of us have to fork out some green when the temperature starts to cool. Depending upon the weather, every degree above 68 increases your overall fuel consumption by as much as 3 percent.  So, kick your thermostat down, layer up your clothing and build a fire in the fire place! Enjoy the scents and smells of winter.

2.  Have your vents and duct cleaned and inspected for leaks.  Not only with the air circulation improve, but you won't be heating the outdoors on your own dime!

3. Install a programmable thermostat.  This was one of the smartest things I have done in my house.  Not only to I know exactly what degree my house is, but I can set it to kick on before I get home, so my house is only really really warm when I am there to enjoy it!

4. Close vents in rooms that do not get used that much.  Don't forget to open them before your guests stay with you though!

5. Check for leaks around windows, doors, electrical outlets, etc.  These can be sealed up with caulking or weather stripping.  It doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but when it comes down to your hard earned money flying right out the window, suddenly, it is a big deal.

6. Lastly, check all lighting in your house.  Make note of where you can switch to an energy efficient bulb or simply just a lower wattage light.

Holiday Countdown

We have now entered actual days until Thanksgiving.  Do you have your menu planned?  What special things to you do with your loved ones to make new traditions or revisit old favorites?  This year I am going to spend Thanksgiving Day with my in laws and the day after cooking for my family.  We are deep frying a turkey this year, with my dad's help.  He has been deep frying turkeys for at least 20 years.  I have no idea how they taste, but everyone seems to like a bird that has been fried.

Nothing says holidays to me more than Spice Cookies.  Check out this recipe for a sweet take on one of my favorite cookies! Besides, Martha would never pass out a bad recipe.

My Mom would love this cute etsy shop full of pillows!  All are made from burlap or grain sacks and offer a special amount of charm and homeyness.

Edson Carlos, Philip Austin and Ama Lea are my top three. I love everyone I've worked though, and have never had a bad experience.

Featured photo(s):

-Artist/Photographer/location of featured photo(s)
"roxy1" Ama Lea Photography MUAH Diana Cortez
"roxy2" Edson Carlos MUAH PROJECT: face
"roxy3" Philip Austin MUAH Roxy Tart

-Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
I love all three of these photos because they are so different. Each one is very much me, but almost different aspects of my personality. The first is from my first shoot with Ama Lea, we wanted to do a more innocent look and I love the way it came out. The second is from a shoot with Edson Carlos for Hallowen 2011. I love horror movies, Freddy Krueger especially, so I really wanted to do a sexy Freddy shoot. I love the colors and how everything pops. The third was taken at Ink N Iron 2001 durning a shoot with Philip Austin. We found a bridge with these amazing lights under it and shot there in the middle of the night surrounded by raccoons and stray cats. It was a blast!

-How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
I've been modeling for almost 4 years now

-Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
I love Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, Mamie Van Doren…. all the classic busty blonds. I love the curves and sex kitten appeal that they all had.

-What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?
I love classic Chanel and Dior from the 50's. And for modern accessories I love Louis Vuitton (I have a huge collection). I design most of my own clothes, and have an amazing seamstress, Hallie Smith, who makes them for me. For modern pin up designers I like Vivian of Halloway,  Stop Staring and Bettie Page clothing.

If you could shoot with any photographer, who would it be?
I would love to work Holly West and Chris Gomez. I adore both their styles. I'm really big on color, and I appreciate a photographer who really knows how to make the colors in their photos pop.
