February Book ~ Domino The Book of Decorating
Domino, a few short years ago, had a magazine in production, that soon gained a cult following.  I believe the magazine was only in publication for a year, before it was shelved.  I am not sure why such a magical magazine got the boot, but I was ecstatic when I realized they had a book published.  (And a little birdie told me they will be publishing a magazine, in small production, of tips and ideas, sometime this year)

What book(s) are you currently reading, or getting to read in March?  I have mine already picked out!

Kem's Weekend Candy

Since tomorrow is going to be the end of the month, Sweetness Overload, I thought I would do my photo week in review.  This week, I started my new job, so no more vacation, although that six week hiatus was desperately needed, and enjoyed!

I did manage to make it to Springfield, last weekend, and got to hang out with friends and family!  This weekend I am cramming in a Tiki Video Shoot, as well as a live modeling gig at the Art School.  Both are new to me, as I haven't done a video shoot, nor have I posed for an Art School, so we shall see how it goes.

Sweet Taste of Freedom ~ Brody's Bakery

// Brody's Bakery // Website //

The owner of Brody's Bakery, Katie, has become a good friend of mine. We met through Pin Up Modeling.  Weird, I know! She is a super sweet lady, with a heart of gold.  She has probably the driest sense of humor I have ever known, and with that whips up some of the yummiest things I have ever seen!

Where are you from?
Kansas City, MO.

How did you get your store/business started?
I fell into baking completely by accident. When I went vegan and began to have to cater to my son's food allergies (and then later learned that I had Celiac disease and had to eat gluten-free), I immediately noticed a lack of any good tasting desserts at the grocery store, or anywhere else for that matter. At that time my son was in a special school program with many other children with food allergies and baking for him quickly turned into baking for many other children and having their parents come to me for birthday cakes and treats for other occasions. When I saw how big the need truly was for allergen free desserts, I decided to throw myself into baking full-time.

What inspires you?
Seeing the positive reactions from my customers, definitely. Seeing the look on a child's face when they realize they can have cupcakes at a party just like all of the other children, or baking a birthday cake for someone who has told me that they haven't had one in 15 years! It's definitely shown me how much "little things" can matter.

How long have you been open and what is some of your favorite items?
We've been in business for about 3 years now and I can honestly say that the majority of our cupcakes are my favorite things...maybe our chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting!

What celebrity would you most like have praise your store/product(s)?
I have no need or even desire for any celebrity clients or big buzz around my products. Although we obviously cater to all ages, positive feedback from my kid clients is my all-time favorite. Who's more honest then kids?

If you had to use only one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

Dedicated and stubbornly so. I've faced a great deal of challenges in keeping my business up and running, but I haven't given up yet!

What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who call and try to order a 3 tiered wedding cake that they want to pick up in an hour and then get mad when I can't meet that request. The grocery store couldn't even accommodate that, let alone a small business! Plan ahead and we'll make you something marvelous!

What are your favorite websites?
The Post-Punk Kitchen, Fat-free Vegan.com...I'd say I divide my time pretty equally between websites but those are my two most beloved.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
People always make the remark to me that I must just hate sweets having to be around them 24/7, but I don't and don't think I'm even capable of that. I genuinely love my own products (a

little too much)!

Kem

Age: 27

Occupation:
Full time creator! I model, do photography, and am currently designing travel fashions for a She is Wolf.

Born in upstate New York- but raised in the South. I resided in Tampa for the majority of my teen years and early twenties- then mosied over to Olympia, Washington where I worked with Tush! Burlesque- and now I find myself comfortably in Monterey, CA! I love traveling :) And apparently moving!

Favorite photographer to work with:
So far I've been lucky enough to have nothing but awesome experiences with all of my photographers! I truly enjoy working with JCost , Scott R. Kline., & Lady Luxe. All are incredibly professional- but still eager to collaborate on ideas and open to discussion!

Featured photo(s):
I've chosen to feature two photos from JCost ( the stairwell photos) & two from Lady Luxe (tiki set.)

Artist/Photographer/location of feahttp://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launchtured photo(s)
Photographer: JCOST / MUAH: Self / Monterey, CA
Photographer: Lady Luxe/ Muah: Lady Luxe/ Monterey, CA

Tell me about your featured photo(s). When were they taken? Why are they your favorite?
I chose two different photographers for my features because I felt it showed a diversity in my work. Plus they were both fantastic experiences! The stairwell photos by JCost are actually shot in my house- they were done sometime in July- as were the Lady Luxe photos. Lady Luxe is a great friend of mine and she has spent much time studying and developing her work to a fantastic level!

How long have you been modeling/enjoying photography?
I've been doing modeling for about 4 years now- I absolutely adore being able to express myself in front of a camera! It just makes my heart glow! And then to get the shots back is such an awesome feeling to just be able to say- "Wow! Thats me!" Cheesy, but totally true!

Who are your favorite Pinup Models? Past or present inspiration?
Whats an interview without mention good ole Bettie ? She always been a lady that I have held in high regard! In addition to her I love Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn, Mamie Van Doren, and anyone who made the effort in the past to pave the way for this style of life & art! Modern models I adore include Mosh, Dita, Angela Ryan, Melanie Lacy, there are honestly so many fab models now the list could go on for days! I'm just so happy that all these women have stepped forth and brought this lifestyle back in full force!

What is some of your favorite clothing lines? Favorite Designers?
Stop Staring makes some of the best dresses I have ever had the pleasure of feeling gorgeous in! Bettie Page clothing has some amazing choices as well- and I love Pin Up Girl Clothing's swimsuits!

If you could shoot with any photographer, who would it be?
That is such a tough choice! I honestly couldnt name one! There is so much talent! Honestly though, it has always been an aspiration of mine to work with Viva!

Kem
